Where it came from
Roxi, Publicist to the Stars was released in 2022 as part of the Unfinity expansion for Magic: The Gathering. This set, known for its silver-bordered legacy and shift to black-bordered legality for certain cards, was designed to blend traditional game mechanics with the whimsical, high-concept humor characteristic of the Un-series. Roxi specifically leans into the set's carnival and space-age aesthetic, functioning as an 'attraction' manager that reflects the set's focus on non-traditional gameplay zones.
The character design and illustration were crafted to capture a frantic, star-studded energy fitting for a publicist operating within a multiversal setting. By utilizing the set's unique 'sticker' mechanic, the card invites players to engage with the game in a layered, tactile way that distinguishes it from standard Magic releases. Upon release, the card was noted by players for its complex interaction with the set’s specialized attractions, serving as a standout example of how Unfinity expanded the boundaries of the game's rules engine.
