Where it came from
Conjurer's Closet was originally released as a rare artifact in the 2012 Magic: The Gathering expansion Dark Ascension. The card was designed to mechanically represent a mystical storage space, allowing players to flicker their creatures in and out of play to trigger enters-the-battlefield effects. Its popularity in casual and commander formats led to its inclusion as a premium promotional card for the Wizards Play Network in 2021, featuring updated art that emphasizes the eerie, magical nature of the closet.
The 2021 promotional version features illustration by Wisnu Tan, who rendered the card with a focus on high-fantasy atmosphere and intricate lighting. This iteration was distributed through local game stores to support community play, serving as a reward for players engaging with the Wizards Play Network program. As a utility card, it remains highly regarded for its versatility in board-state management, and this specific printing is sought after by collectors for its distinct, modern aesthetic compared to the original print run.
