Where it came from
Conjurer's Closet was originally introduced in the 2012 Dark Ascension expansion for Magic: The Gathering. It was designed as an artifact that allows players to blink their creatures—exiling them and immediately returning them to the battlefield—which triggers 'enter the battlefield' effects again. The design intent was to create a powerful utility tool for players focusing on creature-based synergy, reflecting the set's gothic horror theme and its mechanics surrounding the interaction between life and death.
The version from Double Masters, released in 2020, features the original artwork by Greg Staples. The illustration depicts an ornate, magical wardrobe or cabinet pulsing with ethereal light, fitting the high-fantasy aesthetic of the game. Double Masters was specifically curated to feature reprints of iconic and desirable cards, and the inclusion of Conjurer's Closet in this set signaled its enduring popularity and utility within the Commander format, where players often seek reliable engines to generate recurring value.
