Construct

The Construct token (collector number 20) was released in 2018 as part of the specialized token collection accompanying the Commander 2018 set for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were produced by Wizards of the Coast to support gameplay mechanics introduced or featured within the four preconstructed decks released that year, specifically those involving artifact-heavy strategies where creating 6/6 Construct creatures was a core win condition.

The visual design of the Construct, illustrated by artist Igor Kieryluk, leans into the high-fantasy aesthetic typical of the game's multiverse. The illustration emphasizes a looming, mechanical entity composed of polished metallic plates and glowing energy, meant to convey the raw, artificial power of the card's 6/6 power and toughness. As a utility token, it was received primarily as a functional necessity for players, appreciated for its clear artistic departure from earlier, more utilitarian token designs.
