Containment Priest

Containment Priest was first introduced in the Commander 2014 release, designed specifically to serve as a high-impact disruption tool in multiplayer formats where players frequently cheat creatures into play. The card quickly became a staple in eternal formats like Legacy and Modern for its ability to punish strategies that rely on reanimation, tokens, or cards that blink permanents. By the time it was reprinted as part of the Core Set 2021, it had firmly established itself as a necessary sideboard option for white decks.

The artwork by Jesper Ejsing captures the thematic essence of the card: a stoic, armored figure wielding light to enforce a barrier against summoned entities. Ejsing focused on a sense of divine order and restrictive power, fitting the card's function as a static ability that forbids non-cast creatures from entering the battlefield.
