Containment Priest

Containment Priest was originally printed as a rare in the Magic: The Gathering set Magic 2015, designed as a targeted hate card to disrupt strategies that cheat creatures onto the battlefield. The Amonkhet Invocations version was released in 2017 as part of a series of premium, Masterpiece-style reprints included within the Amonkhet expansion. These cards were distributed at a very low frequency, appearing as rare chase cards meant to showcase the aesthetic themes of the Nicol Bolas-governed plane of Amonkhet.

The visual design of the Amonkhet Invocations series is characterized by a distinct Egyptian-inspired art style featuring ornate, gold-toned frames and hieroglyphic-influenced borders. The illustration for this iteration of Containment Priest maintains the high-fantasy aesthetic typical of the set, emphasizing the character's role as a warden within the religious hierarchy of the plane. While the unique frame style was controversial among some players due to its bold, non-standard typography and readability concerns, it remains a highly sought-after collectible for its rarity and departure from the traditional card template.
