What it does
Enchant red or green creature
Enchanted creature doesn't untap during its controller's untap step.
Togk Manytooth struggled helplessly as the kathari circled above him. For a warrior, immobilization is a fate worse than death.

Where it came from
Controlled Instincts was released in 2009 as part of the Conflux expansion for Magic: The Gathering. As the second set in the Shards of Alara block, Conflux focused on the convergence of five distinct magical planes, forcing disparate color philosophies to interact. This particular card was designed to support the set's mechanical emphasis on multi-colored strategies and the interaction between creature types, serving as an utility piece within the Naya shard's aggressive framework.
The card features illustration by Steve Argyle, whose work is characterized by a balance of clean lines and dynamic movement. Argyle sought to depict the visceral tension of a hunter mid-pounce, aligning with the primal, nature-focused aesthetic associated with the Naya faction. Upon its release, the card was viewed primarily as a functional addition to Limited play formats, where its ability to manipulate creature combat served as a modest but effective tactical tool for players drafting those specific color combinations.
