Corrupt

Corrupt was released as a promotional card through the 2008 Magic Player Rewards program, a system designed by Wizards of the Coast to encourage tournament participation by mailing exclusive, foil-treated cards to active players based on their store play frequency. This particular iteration of the card originally appeared in the Urza's Saga expansion and was repurposed here to reward players for their loyalty and engagement with local game stores during the 2008 calendar year.

The artwork for this version was provided by Dan Dos Santos, who sought to imbue the spell with a sense of ominous, dark magic consistent with black-aligned cards in the game. By utilizing a high-contrast, atmospheric style, the illustration emphasizes the parasitic nature of the card's effect, which drains life from an opponent while bolstering the caster. The card was well-received by the player base for its distinctive foil finish and the utility of its black-border aesthetics, which provided a premium aesthetic compared to the original printings.
