Mana Tithe

Mana Tithe was first introduced in the Planar Chaos set in 2007, marking a rare instance of a white spell capable of countering a spell, a mechanic traditionally reserved for the color blue in Magic: The Gathering. The card was designed to reflect the color-pie shifting themes of the set, which reimagined iconic abilities within different color identities. This specific version was released as part of the 2008 Magic Player Rewards program, which functioned as a promotional incentive for players who participated in sanctioned tournament play.

The artwork for this particular promotional printing was created by artist Christopher Moeller, who provided a distinct, dynamic illustration that contrasted with the original Planar Chaos version. By featuring the updated, gold-expansion-symbol aesthetic and special foiling process exclusive to the rewards program, the card became a sought-after piece for collectors who favored unique visual variants of utility spells. It remains a notable example of Wizards of the Coast's historical initiative to reward dedicated community members with limited-release alternate art cards.
