What it does
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell from your hand, manifest the top card of your library. (Put that card onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)
Whenever a face-down creature you control dies, exile it if it's an instant or sorcery card. You may cast that card until the end of your next turn.

Where it came from
Cryptic Pursuit was released in 2022 as part of the 'New Capenna Commander' set, a collection of supplemental decks designed to accompany the core 'Streets of New Capenna' expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card draws heavily from the set’s central aesthetic, which blends 1920s Art Deco noir with high-fantasy urban corruption, reflecting the decadent and crime-ridden atmosphere of the city of New Capenna.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who focused on capturing the frantic, investigative energy inherent to the set's organized crime theme. The design emphasizes the card's mechanical reliance on drawing and discarding cards, a process intended to mimic the rapid-fire intelligence gathering or 'cryptic pursuits' of the city's various demon-led factions. It was received as a functional, flavor-focused utility card that supports spell-heavy strategies within the Commander format.
