What it does
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell from your hand, manifest the top card of your library. (Put that card onto the battlefield face down as a 2/2 creature. Turn it face up any time for its mana cost if it's a creature card.)
Whenever a face-down creature you control dies, exile it if it's an instant or sorcery card. You may cast that card until the end of your next turn.

Where it came from
Cryptic Pursuit was released in 2022 as part of the Streets of New Capenna Commander set, a collection themed around a 1920s-inspired metropolis controlled by powerful organized crime families. The card reflects the set's signature mechanics and aesthetic, focusing on the manipulation of the library and graveyard to represent the illicit secrets and hidden agendas central to the lore of New Capenna.
The artwork was illustrated by Justyna Dura, who utilized a moody, atmospheric style consistent with the film noir influence of the set. Upon its release, the card was noted by players for its synergy with decks capable of casting multiple spells in a single turn, finding its niche among Commander enthusiasts who value engine-building and resource management within the game's expansive rule set.
