Where it came from
Cut a Deal was introduced in 2023 as part of the Phyrexia: All Will Be One Commander set, a collection of supplemental card decks designed to accompany the main Phyrexia-themed expansion. The card was specifically crafted for the Commander format, which prioritizes social, multiplayer dynamics and political maneuvering between players, fitting into a suite of cards designed to encourage table interaction through group-hug style mechanics.
The card’s illustration was created by the artist Games Workshop, capturing the grim and industrial aesthetic characteristic of the Phyrexian plane. The design focuses on the core concept of a mutually beneficial exchange, mirroring the card’s function of allowing all players to draw a card while providing the caster with a small advantage. It was well-received by players seeking utility tools for White-aligned decks that struggle with traditional card advantage, providing a thematic way to balance the board state.
