Daring Apprentice

Daring Apprentice was originally introduced in the Ninth Edition core set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, released in 2005. As a core set, Ninth Edition was designed to provide a foundational pool of cards for players, featuring a mix of reprints from previous expansions alongside new additions. The set marked a transition point in the game's presentation, notably being the final core set to utilize the white-bordered card frame before the game shifted entirely to the modern black-bordered aesthetic.

The card was illustrated by Dany Orizio, a digital artist known for his vibrant, character-focused work during the mid-2000s era of the game. Orizio’s design depicts a young, ambitious mage mid-spell, capturing the card's mechanical essence of sacrificing itself to counter a target spell.
