Brushland

Brushland was first introduced in the 1995 Ice Age expansion, designed as a 'pain land' that provides either colorless mana or a choice between two colors at the cost of one life. This mechanical identity became a staple of mana fixing in Magic: The Gathering, offering players a way to ensure color consistency in aggressive or combo-oriented decks. The Ninth Edition version, released in 2005, marked the transition of the card into the core set rotation, serving as a reliable utility land for players navigating the standard environment of that era.

The artwork for this particular printing was illustrated by Donato Giancola, who brought a painterly, atmospheric quality to the landscape. His vision emphasized the stark, desolate beauty of the plains, aligning with the card's function as a barren yet essential resource. Upon its inclusion in Ninth Edition, the card was well-received by the player base for its functional consistency, maintaining its status as a foundational piece of deck construction despite the frequent reprintings across various sets.
