What it does
Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn.
By the physical laws of our universe, darkness is merely the absence of light. Necrons can harness the power of other dimensions, where darkness is tangible and moldable.

Where it came from
Darkness was included in the Warhammer 40,000 Commander set released by Wizards of the Coast in 2022. This collection marked a major crossover between Magic: The Gathering and Games Workshop's iconic tabletop wargaming universe, specifically integrating the grim, gothic aesthetic of the 41st millennium into the Commander format. The card serves as a reprint of a classic Magic effect, reimagined here with thematic artwork to align with the brutal and apocalyptic nature of the Warhammer setting.
The illustration for this specific printing was crafted by artist Igor Kieryluk, whose work frequently captures the dark, textured fantasy elements associated with Magic. In this iteration, the visual design focuses on the pervasive, oppressive atmosphere characteristic of the 40,000 universe. The card was received by the player base as a functional and flavorful inclusion, noted for its ability to weave the narrative mechanics of Magic into the lore-heavy backdrop of the Imperium of Man.
