Deathgrip

Deathgrip originated in the 1994 Summer Magic expansion, colloquially known as Edgar. This set was a limited print run produced in the Philippines to replace inventory for the popular Magic: The Gathering card game after initial demand outstripped the primary printing capacity. Because these cards were intended to serve as a functional supplement to the Revised Edition, they mirror the mechanics and art of the original base set while being printed on distinctive, often brighter card stock.

The card's artwork, illustrating the macabre concept of a supernatural grasp, reflects the dark fantasy aesthetic common to the game's early developmental era. Like other cards in the Edgar release, Deathgrip was designed by the original Wizards of the Coast team to maintain game balance and theme. Although initially overlooked by players who preferred the standard sets, the Summer Magic printing has since gained historical significance among enthusiasts due to its rarity and the distinct printing process utilized during this urgent production period.
