Where it came from
Armageddon, a powerful sorcery card in the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, was included in the 1994 Summer Magic set, known colloquially as Edgar. This limited print run was intended to replace the Revised Edition core set but was recalled by Wizards of the Coast due to a high density of printing errors, making the few surviving packs and cards among the most elusive items in the hobby.
The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the game's most iconic early illustrators. His design captures the destructive, board-clearing essence of the spell, which forces all players to destroy all lands in play. While the card's mechanics were controversial for their ability to stifle gameplay, Rush's dramatic aesthetic solidified its status as a cornerstone of the game's visual history.
