Deep Analysis

Deep Analysis first appeared in the Torment set in 2002, designed as part of the Odyssey block's focus on the graveyard as a resource. The card was crafted to reward players for filling their discard piles, a theme central to the mechanics of that era. Its inclusion in the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set serves as a mechanical reprint, maintaining the card's original utility while updating its presentation to fit the thematic backdrop of Ravnica's detective-noir aesthetic.

The original illustration for this card was created by artist Greg Staples, who leaned into the dark, eerie tone of the Torment expansion to visualize the concept of psychic probing. Over the years, the card has been lauded by players for its efficient card advantage, specifically its flashback ability which allows for a second use from the graveyard. This version in the Murders at Karlov Manor Commander set retains the classic gameplay function that has kept the card a staple in various formats for over two decades.
