Provenance

Where it came from

Deep Analysis was originally printed in the Torment expansion of Magic: The Gathering in 2002. Designed as a sorcery that allowed a player to draw two cards at a relatively efficient cost, it gained notoriety for its flashback mechanic, which enabled players to cast it a second time from their graveyard for a higher mana investment. This design proved powerful enough to shape the competitive landscape, finding a permanent home in various combo and control archetypes due to the card advantage it provided.

This version of the card is from the 2023 Dominaria Remastered set, which was curated to celebrate the deep history of the Magic setting. Jesper Ejsing provided the new artwork, shifting away from the original imagery to emphasize the intellectual labor of the mage. His interpretation highlights the intense focus and arcane study inherent to the card's function, aligning with the set's thematic goal of providing a cohesive, nostalgic visual experience for longtime players.
