Defiant Salvager

Defiant Salvager was released in 2017 as part of the Aether Revolt expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Set on the plane of Kaladesh, a world defined by its focus on invention and aether-fueled technology, the card depicts the scavenging culture that developed in the shadow of the ruling Consulate. It represents the creative, resourceful spirit of the plane's inhabitants, who utilized discarded mechanical scraps to construct functional devices amidst political upheaval.

The card was illustrated by Greg Staples, whose work often leans into moody, atmospheric lighting to capture the grit of fantasy environments.
