What it does
Look at the top seven cards of your library. Put up to two planeswalker cards from among them onto the battlefield. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Gideon and Liliana may not have seen eye to eye, but that did not stop them from fighting side by side.

Where it came from
Deploy the Gatewatch was released as a rare sorcery in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering set Eldritch Moon. This specific version is a promotional printing released alongside the set, distinguished by its unique artwork and the expansion symbol associated with the Eldritch Moon promos. The card depicts the protagonists of the set, Jace Beleren and Liliana Vess, rallying forces against the cosmic horror threatening the plane of Innistrad.
The card was illustrated by Jason Rainville, who captured the high-stakes narrative tension inherent to the Gatewatch storyline. Mechanically, the card was designed to support white-aligned deck strategies by allowing players to look through the top seven cards of their library to put planeswalker cards onto the battlefield. While it served as a flavorful centerpiece for the set's climax, it remains a notable example of the narrative-focused design trends prevalent during the Battle for Zendikar and Shadows over Innistrad blocks.
