Where it came from
The Dimir Locket was introduced in the 2018 Magic: The Gathering set Guilds of Ravnica, marking a return to the fan-favorite plane of Ravnica. As part of a cycle of artifacts representing the ten guilds of the city-plane, it was designed as a functional piece of ramp and card selection specifically for the House Dimir, the guild of secrets and espionage. Mechanically, the locket allows players to filter their deck in the late game, reflecting the guild's penchant for tactical information gathering.
The art for this card was created by Titus Lunter, who was tasked with capturing the shadowy and elusive aesthetic of the Dimir. Lunter focused on incorporating the guild’s signature iconography, specifically the eye-themed motif, to ensure the item felt like an authentic piece of clandestine equipment. The design was received by players as a staple inclusion for limited formats and budget Commander decks, valued for its dual utility in managing both mana and card quality.
