Where it came from
Dina's Guidance was released in 2021 as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages expansion for Magic: The Gathering. The card represents the Witherbloom College, one of the five magical institutions within the Strixhaven setting, which focuses on the intersection of life and death, often utilizing biology and nature-based magic. It was designed to support the set's themes of interaction between gaining life and using that life as a resource.
The artwork for this card was created by artist Fajareka Setiawan, who utilized a lush, dark aesthetic to convey the swampy, scholarly atmosphere of Witherbloom. The design intent was to capture the essence of a mentor figure imparting lessons within the college's unique environment. Upon release, the card was received as a standard utility piece for limited play, valued for its thematic alignment with the set's mechanical identity.
