Where it came from
Dina's Guidance was released as part of the Strixhaven: School of Mages set in 2021, representing the Witherbloom College of Magic. This set explored the aesthetic of a high-fantasy magical university, with Dina, Soul Steeper serving as a central figure for the black-green color identity. The card is designed to reflect the nature-infused necromancy specific to the Witherbloom teachings, emphasizing the balance between life and decay within the university's curriculum.
The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the atmospheric, gothic-botanical tone of the college. The visual style reflects the broader art direction of the set, which prioritizes a mix of academic prestige and dark, swampy ecological elements. Upon its release, the card became a staple for players building around the Witherbloom mechanics, serving as a functional piece of utility that solidified the thematic identity of the expansion.
