Where it came from
Dina's Guidance was released as a promotional card for the Magic: The Gathering set Secrets of Strixhaven, which debuted in 2021. The set is themed around the Strixhaven University of Mages, an institution divided into five distinct colleges, with Dina representing the Witherbloom college of life and death. This specific card was distributed as part of a localized promotional campaign to highlight the unique mechanical synergy between the university's houses and their respective magical philosophies.
The card features artwork by illustrator Johannes Voss, who utilized a lush, botanical aesthetic to reflect Witherbloom's nature-based necromancy. The design captures the character's duality, balancing life-giving greenery with the darker undertones of decay. Upon its release, the card was well-received by players for its thematic resonance and the aesthetic quality of the alternate art style, which helped define the visual identity of the Strixhaven academic setting.
