Provenance

Where it came from

The Dinosaur token was released in 2017 as part of the Ixalan expansion for Magic: The Gathering. These tokens were created to represent creature permanents brought into play by various spells and abilities within the set, specifically those featuring the Mesozoic-themed faction. As part of a design shift, Ixalan introduced a strong tribal focus, utilizing high-quality digital artwork to ground the creatures in a vibrant, prehistoric jungle setting.

The visual design emphasizes the predatory nature of the species, rendered with a consistent aesthetic style meant to integrate seamlessly with the set's broader art direction. While tokens are standard ephemera in trading card games, the Dinosaur tokens from this block are recognized for their distinct contribution to the game’s lore, reflecting the thematic emphasis on exploration and ancient terrors that defined the Ixalan plane's reception among the player community.
