Where it came from
Double Vision was released in 2020 as part of the Core Set 2021 for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. As a rare enchantment, it was designed to capture the chaotic and powerful essence of red mana, functioning as a high-cost payoff for players who favor spell-heavy strategies. The set itself was curated to act as a bridge for new and returning players, balancing nostalgia with modern mechanical depth.
The card features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a vivid, fractured aesthetic to depict the magical replication of spells. The design intentionally creates a sense of duplication and intensity, mirroring its mechanical ability to cast an instant or sorcery twice. Upon its release, it was well-received by players in casual and Commander formats, where its capacity for explosive, doubled game effects made it a popular choice for deck building.
