What it does
As long as you control a Dovin planeswalker, this creature gets +2/+2 and has vigilance. (Attacking doesn't cause it to tap.)
It was made for battle, but that doesn't mean it's unsophisticated.

Where it came from
Dovin's Automaton was released in 2019 as part of the Ravnica Allegiance expansion for Magic: The Gathering. Within the game's lore, the card represents the mechanical constructs developed by Dovin Baan, a planeswalker serving as the arbiter of the Azorius Senate. These machines were designed to mirror the rigid, orderly nature of the guild, serving as enforcement tools to maintain the stability of the plane of Ravnica during a period of escalating political tension.
The card's illustration was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who focused on a sleek, functional aesthetic to emphasize the construct's precision-engineered purpose. By depicting the automaton with glowing, crystalline components, the design visually reinforces the magic-infused technology characteristic of the Azorius. Upon its release, the card was positioned as a reliable utility creature for Limited play formats, where its design effectively demonstrated the synergy-focused mechanics intended for blue-aligned decks in the Ravnica setting.
