Provenance

Where it came from

The Dragon token, numbered 8 in the Eternal Masters set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in June 2016. This set was designed specifically for draft play, featuring high-powered reprints that had historically shaped the Magic: The Gathering competitive landscape. The token serves as a visual utility piece, intended to represent the 5/5 flying creature created by various spells and abilities within the game.

The artwork for this particular iteration was created by Johannes Voss, a prominent illustrator known for his ethereal and high-fantasy aesthetic. Voss aimed to capture the classic, imposing stature of a dragon through dynamic posture and atmospheric lighting, aligning with the set's goal of honoring the game's long-standing visual traditions while providing players with polished, modern representations of core token archetypes.
