Provenance

Where it came from

The Dragon token, numbered 8 in the Foundations Commander Tokens set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2024 to support the diverse range of mechanics found within the Foundations expansion. This token is designed to represent the flying, red-aligned creatures frequently generated by various red cards throughout the Magic: The Gathering ecosystem, providing a physical, standardized reference for players during complex gameplay sessions.

The artistic direction for this token follows the modern aesthetic established for the Foundations set, focusing on a high-fantasy depiction of a draconic creature meant to be visually distinct from other token types. By standardizing these illustrations, the design team aimed to enhance clarity and immersion on the battlefield, ensuring that players have a consistent visual language that separates tokens from the core deck cards.
