Dragonback Lancer // Dragonback Lancer

The Dragonback Lancer card from the Tarkir: Dragonstorm Art Series was released by Wizards of the Coast as part of the specialized Art Series promotional line, which debuted in the late 2010s. This specific set celebrates the lore of the Tarkir plane, a setting defined by its shifting timelines and draconic themes. The series was designed to showcase high-fidelity, full-bleed artwork intended for collectors and enthusiasts, stripping away the traditional card frame to emphasize the visual narrative of the game’s fantasy aesthetic.

The artwork for this piece captures the fierce, mobile combat style associated with the Mardu Horde, one of the primary clans featured in the Dragonstorm cycle. The illustration emphasizes the synergy between the rider and their mount, utilizing dramatic lighting and dynamic posture to convey the intensity of dragon-mounted warfare. Upon release, these art cards were well-received by the Magic: The Gathering community as a premium way to engage with the game's expansive visual world-building, often sought after as display pieces rather than for tournament play.
