Dream Tides

Dream Tides was released in 1997 as part of the Visions expansion for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. Created by Wizards of the Coast, this set was notable for being the first expansion developed in collaboration with players from the Japanese Magic community, aiming to broaden the game's international appeal. The card reflects the set's thematic focus on shifting landscapes and mystical phenomena, serving as a tactical tool that embodies the ethereal nature of the blue color mana faction.

The artwork for the card was illustrated by artist Jeff Miracola, who was a frequent contributor to the game during the mid-nineties. Miracola employed a fluid, impressionistic style to capture the concept of shifting tides, utilizing a cool color palette to evoke a sense of calm and mystery. Upon its release, the card was received as a functional piece of deck utility, valued for its specific interaction with game mechanics rather than as a centerpiece, though its evocative art has maintained a steady following among collectors of the Visions set.
