Where it came from
Drown in Dreams was first released as part of the Innistrad: Crimson Vow set in 2021 before being reprinted in the Modern Horizons 3 Commander collection. It was designed as a versatile blue sorcery that allows players to draw cards or mill a target player, reflecting the gothic horror themes of the Innistrad plane. Mechanically, it serves as a powerful scaling effect that rewards players for generating large amounts of mana, making it a staple for control-oriented strategies.
The artwork, illustrated by Wisnu Tan, captures the atmospheric tension central to its identity. The imagery aligns with the set's focus on the deep-seated fears and oceanic mysteries prevalent in the world of Magic: The Gathering. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the Commander community for its utility, earning a place in many blue-black decks due to its flexibility in both aggressive self-mill and defensive card advantage.
