Drowned

Drowned is one of the front cards featured in the Foundations Jumpstart set, a release designed to offer an accessible and evergreen entry point for Magic: The Gathering players. These front cards serve as the thematic anchors for the various deck archetypes within the Jumpstart format, providing players with a clear mechanical identity before they begin their games. The card reflects the set's intent to revitalize foundational mechanics and flavor for a modern audience while maintaining the game's long-standing aesthetic conventions.

The art and design of the Foundations set prioritize clarity and accessibility, drawing upon classic horror and nautical tropes typical of the Magic universe. These cards were illustrated by artists tasked with maintaining visual consistency across the set's disparate archetypes, aiming to ground new players in the lore of the multiverse. Since its introduction, the card has been received as a functional, illustrative example of the blue-aligned manipulation and graveyard-adjacent themes that define the game's core gameplay loop.
