Where it came from
Inventive is one of the front cards featured in the Foundations Jumpstart set, released in 2024 to provide an accessible entry point for new Magic: The Gathering players. These front cards serve as the thematic anchors for Jumpstart packets, designed to clearly communicate the mechanical identity of a deck—in this case, focusing on the blue-aligned strategy of card advantage and synergy common in modern Magic design.
The art and mechanical direction for the Foundations set were developed by Wizards of the Coast to emphasize core gameplay principles. As part of a design philosophy intended to create a cohesive and easy-to-learn environment, the card balances its utility with a visual style that aligns with the established aesthetic of the current Magic multiverse, aiming to provide both utility for beginners and a nostalgic touch for veteran collectors of the Jumpstart format.
