Provenance

Where it came from

The Dungrove Elder DCI Promo was issued as a participation reward for Magic: The Gathering tournaments during the 2011 season. It originates from the Innistrad block era, featuring the iconic treefolk creature that scales in power based on the number of Forests the player controls. This promo version utilizes the original illustration by Volkan Baga, which emphasizes the grounded, ancient aesthetic of the creature standing in a lush, verdant woodland setting.

Designed as a foil-treated collectible, this specific release was intended to incentivize competitive play at local game stores. The art style serves as a hallmark of the period, reflecting the intricate detail and atmospheric depth Baga brought to the game during his tenure. Among players and collectors, it remains a notable piece for its minimalist, textured appearance and its role as a functional staple in green-based casual and semi-competitive formats of the time.
