Provenance

Where it came from

The Durkwood Boars card was released as part of the Rivals Quick Start Set, a foundational component of the mid-1990s trading card game era. Designed to introduce new players to the mechanics and world-building of the Rivals game, the set served as a self-contained entry point, offering a balanced selection of creatures and spells intended to teach fundamental strategy and resource management.

The art featured on card number 38 reflects the gritty, high-fantasy aesthetic common to collectible card games of the period, prioritizing an evocative portrayal of the titular creatures. While the design was intended to provide a reliable mid-tier offensive option for players, the set as a whole received modest reception, eventually becoming a quiet point of nostalgia for those who entered the hobby during the initial surge of the collectible gaming trend.
