Where it came from
Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire was introduced in the 2022 expansion Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, marking a return to the fan-favorite plane of Kamigawa reimagined through a cyberpunk lens. The card represents the spiritual and political heart of the setting, serving as a legendary land that taps into the plane's deep history of shinto-inspired traditions. It was designed as part of a cycle of legendary lands intended to provide utility and board interaction, reflecting the strategic evolution of modern Magic: The Gathering card design.
The 268p promo variant features the striking Ukiyo-e inspired art style that defined the set's aesthetic, blending traditional Japanese woodblock print sensibilities with the neon-drenched futurism of the new Kamigawa. This specific treatment was crafted to honor the artistic heritage of the setting while emphasizing its high-tech evolution. The card was well-received by the player base for its potent mechanical flexibility and its distinctive visual presentation, which sought to bridge the gap between the original 2004 block and its modern narrative successor.
