Where it came from
Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire was released in 2022 as part of the Magic: The Gathering expansion Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. This card represents a reimagining of the iconic Eiganjo Castle from the original 2004 Kamigawa block, updated to reflect the futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired aesthetic of the plane's progression into a high-tech society. It was designed as a legendary land with a channel ability, offering players tactical utility by providing both white mana and a protective removal effect.
The card features artwork by Johannes Voss, who utilized a clean, digital-forward style to bridge the gap between traditional Japanese motifs and the neon-drenched urban environment of Neon Dynasty. Upon release, the card was widely received by the competitive community as a staple for white-aligned decks due to its versatility and ability to bypass counterspells. It remains a hallmark of the set's success in blending established lore with modern game design mechanics.
