Eldrazi Scion

The Eldrazi Scion token was introduced during the 2015 Magic: The Gathering expansion set Battle for Zendikar. These tokens were designed to represent the parasitic, reality-warping spawn of the Eldrazi titans, functioning as a recurring mechanical resource that players could sacrifice for mana or use as defensive fodder. The set centered on the plane of Zendikar's struggle against these cosmic entities, and the token served as a visual shorthand for the overwhelming, swarm-like nature of the Eldrazi invasion.

The artwork for this token was created by Greg Staples, who utilized a haunting, surreal aesthetic consistent with the Eldrazi visual identity of the time. Staples focused on conveying a sense of alien anatomical wrongness, emphasizing the colorless, tentacled, and crystalline features that define the brood. Upon release, the token was widely praised by players for its atmospheric design, which effectively captured the unsettling, otherworldly threat posed by the antagonists in the Battle for Zendikar narrative arc.
