Elemental

The Elemental token, bearing the collector number 9 from the Modern Horizons set, was released by Wizards of the Coast in 2019. This token was designed specifically to represent the creature generated by the card 'Omnath, Locus of the Roil,' a popular legendary creature that creates 5/5 Elemental tokens. It emerged during a pivotal moment for Magic: The Gathering, as Modern Horizons was the first set designed primarily for the Modern format, blending new card designs with nostalgic callbacks to the game's expansive history.

The visual design of the token reflects the ethereal and volatile nature of an Elemental. Featuring art by Johannes Voss, the illustration captures the creature's shifting, translucent form through a vibrant, painterly aesthetic that has become a hallmark of Voss's work on the game. Upon its release, the token was well-received by players for its artistic cohesion with the rest of the Modern Horizons aesthetic, serving as both a functional tool for gameplay and a small piece of collectable art within the larger card ecosystem.
