Where it came from
Elmar, Ulvenwald Informant was released in 2022 as part of the Secret Lair x Arcane: Lands collection, a collaboration between Wizards of the Coast and the animated series Arcane. This card was designed for the Magic: The Gathering Commander format, specifically created to represent the intrigue and investigative atmosphere of the city of Piltover as depicted in the show. The mechanical design focuses on resource generation and card advantage, reflecting the character's role as an information gatherer within the narrative.
The art for this card was commissioned to capture the distinct aesthetic of the show's animation style, blending fantasy elements with the industrial, steampunk-inspired look of the series. While the card functions within the established rules of the trading card game, it serves as a crossover collectible intended to bridge the fanbases of the game and the animated medium. Upon its release, it was received as a unique stylistic departure from traditional Magic: The Gathering card art, appealing specifically to collectors of crossover series and fans of Arcane.
