Emeria, the Sky Ruin

Emeria, the Sky Ruin was originally introduced in the 2009 Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar. The card reflects the lore of the plane of Zendikar, depicting the ruins of an ancient floating city once inhabited by the kor people, who worshipped the entity Emeria, later revealed to be the Eldrazi titan Emrakul. The design team sought to capture the sense of awe and scale associated with the plane's floating geography through the card's ability to return permanents from the graveyard to the battlefield.

This specific printing originates from the 2021 Secrets of Strixhaven Commander release, which featured a curated selection of powerful lands and utility cards. The artwork for this version retains the evocative, atmospheric aesthetic established by the original artist, Kieran Yanner. By the time of this release, the card had long been cemented as a staple in the Commander format, favored by players for its ability to provide significant late-game recursion in mono-white decks.
