Where it came from
The Emerin, Shivan Angel card is a specialized promotional piece originating from the RZ06j series, often associated with limited-run event distributions. These cards were typically commissioned to serve as commemorative tokens for participants at specific Magic: The Gathering regional championships or promotional tournament circuits held during the mid-2000s. The design adapts the iconic Shivan Angel motif, a creature type deeply embedded in the game's lore, to showcase a distinct stylistic departure from the standard set releases of the era.
The artistic direction for this series focused on highlighting the ethereal, high-fantasy aesthetics that defined the Shivan Angel's visual identity. By utilizing a unique border treatment and specific foiling processes standard to event-exclusive cards, the producers aimed to create a visually striking collectible that functioned both as a playable game piece and a memento of competitive engagement. While the specific illustrator for this version remains uncredited in general databases, the artwork was crafted to evoke a sense of regal authority, consistent with the powerful status the creature holds within the game's mechanics and history.
