Emeria's Call // Emeria, Shattered Skyclave

Emeria's Call was released in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar Rising. It serves as a prominent example of the set's signature 'modal double-faced card' mechanic, which allowed players to choose between a powerful spell on the front and a functional land on the back. The design was intended to mitigate the common frustration of drawing too many lands in the late game or not enough in the early stages, effectively providing players with more versatile tactical options throughout a match.

The card was illustrated by Johannes Voss, a long-time contributor to the game known for his ethereal and light-focused aesthetic. Voss designed the artwork to capture the majestic, floating nature of the Shattered Skyclave, a central location in the Zendikar lore. Upon its release, the card was well-received by the competitive community for its utility, as it provided both a high-impact board-clearing effect and a reliable source of mana, cementing its status as a staple for white-aligned decks.
