Emeria's Call // Emeria, Shattered Skyclave

Emeria's Call was introduced in the 2020 Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar Rising as part of the innovative cycle of Modal Double-Faced Cards. These cards were designed to address the persistent issue of resource variance in gameplay, allowing players to utilize a card either as a powerful mythic rare spell or as a land source depending on the strategic requirements of their hand. The inclusion of these cards in the set sought to provide players with greater flexibility while maintaining the adventurous, landscape-focused identity of the Zendikar plane.

The card features artwork by Johannes Voss, who rendered the titular shattered skyclave of Emeria with a sense of immense scale and ethereal light. Voss intended to evoke the storied, ruinous history of the plane's ancient kor civilization, emphasizing the floating, broken architecture that defines the Zendikar aesthetic. Upon release, the card was well-received by the competitive community, particularly in Constructed formats, for its utility as both a late-game finisher and a necessary mana source, cementing its status as a staple for white-aligned decks.
