Empyrial Armor

Empyrial Armor first appeared in the Urza's Saga expansion for Magic: The Gathering, released in 1998 as part of the overarching Urza block. Designed by Richard Garfield and his team, the set was intended to shift the game’s power level, introducing mechanics centered around artifacts and complex board interactions. The card itself represents a rare enchantment that grants a creature power and toughness equal to the number of cards in the player's hand, embodying the resource-management style of play prevalent in that era.

The artwork for the original printing was created by artist Jeff Miracola, who utilized a distinct, illustrative style to capture the ethereal and protective nature of the armor. The card was eventually reprinted as part of The List, a curated selection of cards from Magic's history that appear in Set Boosters. This initiative was designed to give modern players access to influential cards from past sets, ensuring that iconic artifacts like Empyrial Armor remain part of the evolving gameplay ecosystem.
