Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder

Endrek Sahr, Master Breeder was originally introduced in the 2006 Magic: The Gathering set Coldsnap, later appearing as a rare in Modern Masters 2015. The character is central to the lore of the continent of Terisiare, serving as a desperate necromancer whose attempts to restore the Ebon Hand lead to his tragic undoing. The design intentionally creates a high-risk, high-reward mechanical loop where the card's power is balanced by the potential for self-destruction.

The artwork for the Modern Masters 2015 printing features the original illustration by Aleksi Briclot. Briclot is known for his atmospheric, dark fantasy aesthetic, which he utilized here to capture the obsession and decay inherent to Sahr's role as a breeder of Thrulls. Upon its release and subsequent reprints, the card became a staple in niche Commander decks, praised by players for its unique ability to generate board presence at a significant cost to the controller.
