Where it came from
The Enlightened Tutor was originally released in the Mirage expansion in 1996 as an uncommon card, designed to allow players to search their library for artifact or enchantment cards. This particular version, released as part of the 2020 Judge Gift Cards program, was created as a high-value incentive and thank-you gesture for judges who volunteer their time and expertise at premier Magic: The Gathering tournaments.
This edition features artwork by Magali Villeneuve, who replaced the original illustration with a refined, ethereal aesthetic that aligns with the premium nature of the Judge Gift series. The design was received with significant interest by the collector community, not only for the functional utility of the card in formats like Commander and Legacy but also for the prestige associated with the foil treatment and the rarity of the promotional distribution method.
