Etched Slith

Etched Slith was released in 2024 as part of the Modern Horizons 3 set for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game. The set was designed by Wizards of the Coast to introduce powerful, format-defining cards directly into the Modern format, drawing heavily on nostalgia and mechanical callbacks to earlier eras of the game. The Slith creature type specifically harkens back to the original Mirrodin block, where these creatures were defined by their ability to grow stronger whenever they dealt combat damage to an opponent.

The card's design aims to modernize the aggressive, snowballing mechanics of its predecessors while fitting into the high-power level of the contemporary set. It features artwork by Wisnu Tan, who utilized a sleek, biomechanical aesthetic that aligns with the established visual language of the New Phyrexia setting. Upon release, it was noted by players for its efficient mana cost and potential utility in aggressive deck archetypes, serving as a distinct nod to the game's long-standing history of creature-based combat pressure.
